The Shaky Grounds Cafe is a groundbreaking escape room concept that encourages players to consider their own preparedness by introducing them to basic prepping skills and lessons through immersive, interactive and engaging gameplay. Escape Rooms are known to promote teamwork and communication and are frequently used by employers as an exciting team-building activity. However, until now, these games typically revolved around themes of science fiction, fantasy and horror. Emmy-winning Production Designer, Tyler Robinson challenges the tropes of the common escape room by merging his experience as a set designer, Army Veteran and CERT/NET volunteer to create the world’s first escape game focused on teaching real-world emergency preparedness skills.

In this unique 45-minute experience, players will solve over 20 hands-on puzzles designed to teach practical preparedness skills such as turning off a gas meter, using a fire extinguisher, accessing drinking water from a water heater, assembling a preparedness kit and more. Emergency preparedness often feels like preaching to the choir but the Shaky Grounds Cafe manages to connect with players from all walks of life by offering them a world-class game* that just so happens to introduce them to preparedness basics.

The family-friendly theme places teams of 3-8 players in the aftermath of a Cascadia Subduction Zone event where they are facing a shortage of food, water and… COFFEE! Desperate for their morning ritual, players must embark on a quest to scavenge a post-disaster cafe in search of the last beans in town. By weaving preparedness lessons into a lighthearted story about coffee, the Shaky Grounds Cafe connects with players by touching on a nerve that resonates with most Oregonians by begging the question; where will you get your coffee?
